Sweet Child O’ Mine- 4 Pentatonic Exercises

In this lesson we will take a look at the guitar solo from Sweet Child O’ Mine by Guns N’ Roses, particularly the 2nd half of the solo.  During this section Slash uses a lot of great pentatonic licks that you can adapt into your playing.  I’ve got 4 exercises for you directly out of the solo.

NOTE- All licks that we will look at will use the basic E min pentatonic box at the 12th fret.

Sweet Child O’ Mine- Guns N’ Roses

First I’ll give you the whole solo. NOTE- I’ve given what parts of the solo I’ve taken out so you can see where they come from.

Full Solo

Lick 1

Now for the licks.  First we have a bending lick.

Lick 2

The important thing about about this next lick is the muted notes.  Get them down pat.

Lick 3

Next we have a machine gun type lick.  You can get this one pretty fast if you practice it.

Lick 4

Finally, another rapid fire lick, this time with some triplets thrown in.

If you have any suggestions for future riffs please email me at mdguitarteacher@gmail.com
